About Us

Karate Union of Australia is a family based non-profit organization, with our goals set on teaching Traditional Shotokan Karate to all ages.

Shihan Marriott has over 40 years experience in martial arts and is the current K.U.A. State coach and Universal Shotokan Karate Union President and National Instructor. Our international technical Adviser is Shihan Kenichi Fukamizu 8th Dan.
All K.U.A instructors have a wealth of experience and knowledge based on many years of training under Shihan Marriott.

As a coach and mentor Shihan Carl Marriott has passed on his knowledge to many of his students enabling them to compete at National and International competitions at a high level.

Shihan, has competed successfully in many International and World Championships. From the early 1980’s in Japan where he still competes regularly in competitions in the veteran divisions successfully. He has also competed in South Africa, America and Okinawa.

Shihan Marriott’s passion for Karate has also been passed on to his children with his son, Todd Marriott, who sets the standard for the future. Todd has a wealth of experience from being a State and National Champion. Todd has also represented Australia in the Australian Karate Federation and brought home a 3rd in Kumite in the World Championships.
And following their big brother are Kim and Karie, who both were State and National Champions.
Kim competed in Dubai in the Shotokan World Championships and won the silver in Women’s Kumite, and also competing successfully in Japan, South Africa and America.
Karie has been an outstanding competitor on the international scene, competing in the Australian Karate Federation World Championships in Hungary placing 3rd in the individual Kumite and 1st in the Women’s Team Kumite. Karie also travelled with the AKF Australian team to South Africa and Greece where she was Team Captain. This wealth of knowledge is now being passed onto our future students including the 3rd generation of Shihan Marriott’s family who are already showing the dedication of their parents with, Ruby, Kim’s daughter now winning major tournaments around Western Australia in Kata and Kumite. Jaxon, Todd’s son is very skillful like his father with very traditional shape and competing at a high level, winning gold in the 2008 karate Union of Australia National Championships for Kata and Kumite. 3 year old Indyana Karie's daughter is now showing great passion for the sport.

With this type of dedication and Knowledge K.U.A can only grow in the future.
